Wilkinson, Thomas: Newcastle newspaper 10 August 1776 in Durham University Library Archives & Special Collections. I learned a lot from watching Bill Malone over the years, he is as good a card & closeup man as they come, then and now IMHO.Baldwin, Richard: London Magazine or Gentelman’s Monthly Intelligencer Vol XLV for the Year 1776, at the Rose in Pater Noster Row, p 544 The Card Spiritualized tells the story of Richard Middletown It really is, as said above, mostly about "uniformity," "What the specs notice" that makes all the difference in the world.Ī lot of the more clever handlings Im still not clever enough to do, but I have a little regimen I go through shuffling when I do a card trick and all looks fair and clean because of my better understanding of it all. The shuffling and quick false cuts just has to appear smooth and fair and you're there, false or not so false. Now, I'm no card man by any stretch but do like playing around with a deck sometimes, and find that deceptive shuffling (and not necessarily false shuffles) work handily as well as anything once you've controlled the card to where you need it to be. I learned that trick as a kid, but didn't make it sing until I thought to use Malone's approach as to the freeness of the cards as he shuffles. I have incorporated some of that in the card tricks I like to do now and again, like the old Circus Card Trick. I've watched him a lot and still can't do what he does anywhere as smoothly but have picked up a few things, mostly his casualness of shuffling while talking and interacting with the specs. Just my 2 cents.I love Bill Malone's work and picked up the general nature of "how" he shuffles as pure deception in itself.
